CC1 - Establish Initial Branding Goals, Strategy, and Guidelines for a new Climate Change Impact Software Product

Project start and end dates:
2019-07-11 to 2019-10-08

Goals & Objectives
Research and define an initial branding goals, strategy, and guidelines for a new climate change impact software product.
Project Outcome
The students worked in-class to help us establish Initial branding goals, strategy, and guidelines for a new Climate Change Impact software product we are developing. While they had relatively little time to research a complex and niche branding opportunity for a climate change impact planning and prediction product, what they produced exceeded our expectations. Their output was a high-level branding strategy and market position report. The students demonstrated enthusiasm, market research skills, creativity and insight throughout the project and while producing and presenting the final report. This report has already provided valuable market and branding information and insight, which we are using to help us position our climate change product with the primary customer segments. Additionally, they have identified many useful marketing channels and funding/partnership programs which we are exploring further. Overall the team’s result was thought-provoking and of value to us.

OASIS: Software Solutions for Climate Change Problems

Software can help the world respond to climate change impacts and disasters.

In 2019 we set out to investigate if there is a need for a solution that gives citizens personalized help preparing for and recovering from climate change impacts and lets trusted authorities assist them and report on their results.

As part of this effort, a great deal of market and technical research was conducted over the last few years. Over 140 students have been involved so far, in dozens of academic institutions in Canada and internationally.

Our greatest finding is the willingness of citizens to take responsibility and help themselves, their neighbors and community plan for, mitigate and recover from climate change impacts and disasters. We also confirmed that a software solution can be built to help overcome the barriers they face when trying to do so.

Now we’re working on a prototype and sharing our findings and progress. Find out more on our OASIS project website!
